About the Faculty

Out of the interest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in expanding education in general and academic education in particular, and to meet the needs of the local community and the labor market in the Northern Borders Region; the Faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences was established at Northern Borders University in 1431AH/ 1432 H Under the resolutions of the University President in Charge, Dr. Osama Al-Tayeb. The establishment of the Faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences undoubtedly constitutes a new phase in the service and development of the community and the provision of training and continuous scientific and educational consultations. It places the university within the framework of its original role in the initiative, which is addressing the needs of society and finding scientific solutions to its various problems in light of its vision and mission. The Dean of the College, Dr. Amna Al-Juhani, was the first dean of the Faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences at the Northern Borders University. Teaching was carried out in the credit hours system using the plan of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. Under the guidance of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Saeed bin Omar Al Omar in 1435 AH, the study plan of the Faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences at the Northern Borders University was developed. Dr. Al-Anoud Sabih Al-Sharari carried the torch after.

Vision and Mission

Vision
To become the most distinguished Faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences at the local and regional levels, and to be a leading faculty of Family & Consumer Sciences in teaching, learning, scientific research, and community service following academic standards.
Mission
To graduate creative, highly qualified, and competitive specialists who keep pace with scientific and technological development and modern trends in food sciences, clothing and textile, housing, and institutional management. To encourage scientific research by upgrading the college's programs and its various units and providing an appropriate environment while responding to the community's diverse needs by providing specialized technical services and consultations to its various private and public institutions.

Goals

The various departments aim to prepare students academically, culturally, and socially in an integrated manner to promote the human development of Saudi society; this is achieved through:

  • Preparing a graduate who can use applied life sciences and make decisions. 
  • Preparing a graduate who can compete locally and regionally in the labor market under changing circumstances. 
  • Preparing specialized technical personnel in various fields needed by society and required by the development process. 
  • Providing a distinguished education that prepares creative women to be the cornerstone of community progress. 
  • Developing study programs continuously to keep pace with scientific and technological progress. 
  • Providing advisory expertise to the service sector, agencies, and production institutions to serve the environment and develop society. 
  • Linking the principles and values of the Islamic religion to different disciplines. 
  • Supporting and strengthening cultural and scientific ties with scientific institutions and family & consumer colleges in Arab and international universities. 
  • Affirming noble human values, deepening the value of loyalty to the Kingdom, and preserving the principles of Islamic law and the traditions of society. 
  • Providing training opportunities for female students in the governmental and private sectors. 
  • Developing the creative abilities of female students and helping them think, research, analyze and reach innovative solutions to community problems. 
  • Holding and participating in seminars, conferences, scientific meetings, and workshops to continuously communicate and connect with the local, regional and global community.
